Sea Moya unveil new track ‘Photographs (Glenn Astro Remix)’
Over the last 12 months, Sea Moya have successfully been carving out their own take on tropical-psychedelic Afrobeat. In the aftermath of recent EP Baltic States and to coincide with their upcoming European festival dates, the Cologne/Mannheim based 3-piece have been graced with a makeover courtesy of recent Ninja Tune signing Glenn Astro.
Elias, David and Iven, who make up the trio, explain in their own words about the remix “For us it feels like Glenn Astro has taken our song ‘Photographs’ down under water and showed it around. Light is breaking through the surface, exotic animals everywhere, bubbles floating upwards joining a smooth flow. Our song seems to be pretty happy down there and so are we with the remix.”
Glenn Astro explains “I was drawn to working on ‘Photographs’ in particular as it’s something that sounds so different to what I do myself. I always like to give myself a challenge where I try and turn something like this into something that sounds like me, but I always try hard not to lose the vibe of the original song.”
Their EP Baltic States was released on 26th August 2016 via Heist or Hit / Humming Records. Drawing from influences, such as Sinkane, Toro Y Moi or more historical icons Can and William Onyeabor and moving towards the more modern sounds of Tame Impala, Sea Moya want you to “think about places you want to travel, dreams you have and people you want to meet” whilst digesting the EP. With such awe-inspiring thought processes that literally go hand-in-hand with the sound of the music, it’s impressive to make the impression that Sea Moya are true creatives in every right.
