Decamping from Manchester to Nashville to record his magnum opus at Jack White’s studio, Oliver Catt crafted a compelling collection of discordant, deeply individual, highly stylised songs. Wonderfully trashy guitars and experimental tendencies provide the bedrock for the abject, yet direct vocals and humanist lyrics that are uplifting and despondent in equal parts. It’s the sound of the final days of adolescence burning with no idea what will grow in its place.
