BAYWAVES

Baywaves take a pickaxe to indie hip-hop, woozy psych licks, and 70s yacht-rock – melting down the debris to pour into their dreampop mould. Evoking the sound of a fading, out-of-focus beach polaroid, everyone’s favourite hypnopoppers draw on influences as diverse as the Psychemagik and Too Slow to Disco compilation series, beaming them through the filters of Brazilian rhythms, and more mainstream reference points such as Hall & Oates. Their signature sound comes fully formed in a mini solar system, where planets of funk, psych, pop, electronica and hip hop orbit a garage band set-up. Calling to mind the likes of The Internet and Thundercat on the one hand and Stereolab or BadBadNotGood on the other. Audio alchemy never sounded so fresh.
