Introducing: MLEKO

Manchester seven-piece MLEKO announce signing to Heist or Hit.

With a sold out home coming show around the corner, Manchester powerhouse MLEKO prepare to bring chaos to the Castle with announcement of their signing to Heist or Hit.

The band — Ed Whirledge (vocals/guitar), Rory Baker (guitar), Tom Houston (sax), Charlotte Nuta (trumpet), Myron Endean (bass), Ioan Saul (drums), and Bruno Evans (guitar/synth) — describe their sound as ‘Gub Rock’, which, like all good made-up genres, is more of a shrug than a statement: “Gub Rock? – Who knows what kind of rock we make?

Like all bands, MLEKO began at ‘MLEKO Summer Camp’ – a bedroom retreat where the line-up was still in flux and the sound undefined.“It was this week of concentrated playing and everyone’s willingness to try out new ideas that really got us excited about the idea of MLEKO. Tom joined on sax shortly after our first gig, while Charlotte saw us at our second gig, booked us for our third, and decided to join the band for the fourth.” Early shows were more like experiments than demarcated performances and it wasn’t until September 2024 when Bruno joined that the seven-piece was complete.
