Pyncher release anticipated EP I Really Mean It This Time, showcasing the final pieces of the jigsaw ‘Louisa’ and ‘Home’. The EP release comes off the back of an acclaimed set at BBC 6 Music Festival in Manchester and a tour supporting The Sophs across the UK and Europe, before festival appearances through the summer. Their scuzzy signature sound was crafted in conjunction with producer Alex Greaves at The Nave in Leeds. The quartet find themselves as a central part of a revitalised Manchester music scene – falling in with Westside Cowboy, TTSSFU, Martial Arts and more in drawing eyes to the city.
The feeling of being different is imbued in the band’s DNA: “I write a lot about feeling alone and being different to everyone else” confesses lead vocalist Sam Blakeley. “I think that is my way of getting it all out there. I like to write about where I’m from – Steyning, West Sussex. It’s a funny place and some of the characters in my songs live there. It’s a fun place to be an observer, as it’s quite isolated from the real world.” However, what may feel like a limitation on a personal level, is actually a superpower. It’s what drives pyncher’s output to be so fresh, eclectic, and unique. They work as a counter-narrative to the dominant voices, those that want to weaponise difference as a negative.
