This summer is the summer for Sea Moya; the Cologne/Mannheim based Psychedelic 3-piece, in anticipation of their EP release Baltic States.
After releasing previous tracks to high acclaim from the blogosphere, Baltic States is a sure-fire piece of aural beauty, musical knowledge and magical experience, combined together to create a soundscape to be heard and never forgotten.
Drawing from influences, such as Sinkane, Toro Y Moi or more historical icons Can and William Onyeabor and moving towards the more modern sounds of Tame Impala, Sea Moya want you to “think about places you want to travel, dreams you have and people you want to meet” whilst digesting the EP. With such awe-inspiring thought processes that literally go hand-in-hand with the sound of the music, it’s impressive to make the impression that Sea Moya are true creatives in every right.
Elias, David and Iven, who make up the trio, explain in their own words about lead single Riga: “Riga had its initial idea in the back of an old Volkswagen van while driving on lonely roads through the Baltic States heading to Latvia’s capital city: Riga. Since our mini-on-the-road-studio couldn’t fit a drum kit, Iven (bass) sampled a bunch of drum sounds from his father’s vinyl jazz collection before we left. After messing around with these sound samples and adding a synth line with our Roland JX 8P, we finally came across that simple vocal line.
Lyrically, it’s about building your future even though sometimes you have no clue what it’s going to be like. The small words “what about you?“ address listeners and might get them to think about their future, too. Even though that topic might trigger doubts and fears, the vibe of Riga is all about staying positive and optimistic and make the best out of it“.
