Westside Cowboy take on Glastonbury 2025 with four shows at the prestigious festival.
Westside Cowboy are saving guitar music one show at a time. This weekend, they continued that mission at Worthy Farm where they took their seat at the table as Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Artist Competition winners.
Although they won a slot opening the Woodsie Stage, press hysteria and fan hype has been reaching such a fever pitch following their triumphant assault on the The Great Escape that the band played every day in the Somerset Sunshine. Additional sets were at The Wishing Well, BBC Introducing & the PRS stage.
It’s rare that a new band have a ‘Glastonbury moment’ so early on in their fledgling career, but after releasing only three singles to date the word-of-mouth buzz was climaxing to such an extent that they almost turned the tables to the point where Glastonbury goers were having their own ‘Westside Cowboy moment’ – looking at you Ellie Rowsell! It all encapsulated the significance of their presence and marks the band out as potential future headliners.
So, what’s the secret sauce? As the band put it: “There’s been a load of amazing, more experimental music that’s come out of the UK – especially Brixton – in the past five to ten years, and a lot of that is a little more cerebral. But being in this band has almost been a bit nostalgic; it’s been fun to try and get back to that feeling of when you’re a teenager and you hear Pavement or Pixies for the first time – that instant excitement at what you’re hearing – and maybe try to do a bit of that.”
