GREAT DANE

CRUUSH

4TH FEBRUARY 2026 | HEIST299 | SINGLE

DESCRIPTION

It’s a song about the 20 to 28 minutes on the train between Todmorden and Manchester Victoria. A daily commute can really poison how beautiful a journey is. Like an oil spill devastating the countryside outside Rochdale; Smithybridge has been absolutely fucked, mate.

The title comes from the line ‘there’s a Great Dane in my pocket again’ which is ridiculous because a Great Dane would never fit in your pocket. Unless it was a tiny little one. We tend to carry too much around in our pockets, though, don’t we?

We came up with the riff in a guitar shop in London before a gig. Pure Waynes World – ‘there I was man with this axe staring me down. I slipped off my fingerless leather gloves and the riff just came straight out of it’. It’s how I imagine The Darkness write their songs.”
