LIFELINE

THE ANSWERING MACHINE

21ST FEBRUARY 2011 | HEIST022 | ALBUM

DESCRIPTION

A knowing deviation from the sound that established the band on their angular debut, this collection slows the pace and dials up the indie. Stylistically extensive, the album clicks between moments of glitch-driven programming and post-rock magnificence to wistful pop and stylish dancefloor fillers. Rather than a mere collection of sound-a-like songs, the music is intelligently insubordinate, self-aware, and possesses an old-fashioned romantic streak. Each song adding another layer to the feeling of love almost found and happiness interrupted. Recorded underneath the city of Manchester one spring, it sounds almost wistful and stoic, awake to the fact that above, there was a city grinding out commerce despite its creation.
